Access Care Planning EMAR is an electronic version of the traditional paper MAR sheet, which is used to record medication administration.

⚠️Important: This software is not intended to be used for clinical decision-making. It does not provide diagnostic functions, clinical risk assessments, or treatment recommendations. All clinical decisions must be made by qualified healthcare professionals using their professional judgment and appropriate clinical tools.

Where to find the EMAR

EMARs are located under each service user record. They will automatically be populated if medication is allocated to them on their care plan.

To find the EMAR, follow these simple steps:

  1. Click the three line menu, then click Service User Records.

  2. Select the relevant service user record.

  3. Click Visits, then click the MAR Sheet tab.

EMAR overview

This example image shows the different entries you will see on an EMAR. The table shows what each number relates to.

Number

Status

Description

1

Completed

Medication had been completed and shows the time and the initials of the employee who has completed it.

2

Completed in red

Medication has been completed outside of the visit time. So the time shows in red.

3

Not required

Medication will show with a key for example not required as NR.

4

Not scheduled

A cell with a grey cross shows that the medication is not scheduled to be given at this time.

Download EMAR

EMARs can be downloaded by service users. This will download a PDF document, which you can then print.

To download an EMAR, follow these simple steps:

  1. Click the three line menu, then click Service User Records.

  2. Select the relevant service user record.

  3. Click Visits, then click the MAR Sheet tab.

  4. Click the download icon

PRN medication not showing on EMAR

If a service user's PRN medication is not visible on the EMAR, it means the medication has not been administered. PRN medications will only appear on the EMAR after they have been administered within the current week.

Still able to see deleted medication

After removing a medication from the customer care plan, it will still appear on the EMAR as a grey cross. This indicates that the medication has been removed. For instance, if you remove the medication on a Thursday, it will remain visible on the EMAR with a grey cross until the end of the week, which is Saturday.

Historic description changes

When a medication activity description is changed within Access Care Planning, at the moment it will change the description shown in the Mar Chart.

This will impact all historic entries as well as future entries. This is intended behaviour of the system, however this has been added to a list for product review in the future.
